FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is pulling plans for a Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, event after speaking with its partners that serve the immigrant community.
The zoo says the decision was difficult but “reflects our desire to stand in solidarity with the community and ensure their safety.”
In the last weeks, Action News has reported on the increase in ICE operations and traffic stops.
Families will still see special decorations, art and two altars, where they can visit and bring photos of loved ones or beloved pets to be honored from October 27 through November 2.
The zoo says it is donating to Faith in the Valley, which helps undocumented immigrants find a path to legal status and citizenship.
