San Diego County’s autumn whiplash weather pattern continues this week as a storm approaches the region, bringing with it cooler temperatures, and chances for rain and thunderstorms.

County residents looking for cooler temperatures following last week’s heat advisory and strong Santa Ana conditions will have their wishes granted, according to NBC 7’s team of meteorologists.

The approaching storm will bring clouds and cooler temperatures on Wednesday morning. By the nighttime, clouds will increasingly gather and a light to moderate rain will move across the Southern California region late Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service of San Diego.

If it does rain in San Diego County on Wednesday night, it will move in through North County first, said NBC 7 meteorologist Greg Bledsoe.

“It’s looking though right now, like any rain we get would more likely be overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. So Thursday’s looking likely for rain but then drying out by later on in the day,” Bledsoe said.

The wet weather brings with it a slight chance for a thunderstorm early on Thursday, the NWS said.

“Everywhere gets cooler on Thursday,” Bledsoe assured.

The mountains will have the best chance for thunderstorms.

How much rain will San Diego County get?

Not a whole lot of rain is expected — about a half-inch to 1 inch spread out from Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon.

Once we get through Thursday, the weather should dry out and warm up for the weekend.

Temperatures will rise back up to the high 70s at the coasts for the weekend and the low 80s for the inland areas.

The mountains will be cooler this weekend, temperatures staying in the high 60s to 70, while the desert will stay in the low 80s.
