Gulfport special agents arrested White in Long Beach on Sept. 24 after the agency received reports that she allegedly made threats to kill federal agents while attempting to buy a gun and pepper spray from High Caliber Guns in Long Beach, according to the criminal complaint.

“The safety of our personnel is paramount, and HSI takes any threat against federal law enforcement officers with the utmost seriousness,” HSI Gulfport Assistant Special Agent in Charge Matthew Reidell said. “We commend the vigilance of the citizens for recognizing these threats and notifying law enforcement immediately, which allowed us to intervene swiftly.”

White is being held as agents prepare federal criminal charges for influencing, impeding or retaliating against a federal official by threat. She faces a maximum of 10 years imprisonment, not more than a $250,000 fine, not more than three years supervised release and a $100 special assessment.

White’s trial is set for Nov. 16.

THE COMPLAINT

The complaint said on Sept. 23, HSI agents interviewed an employee at the gun store, who said at about 11:30 a.m., White entered the store and said she needed a gun, claiming a need for protection at protests.

According to the employee, White said that ICE agents were becoming crazy and wild and that she needed a gun because she was a protester and activist.

White then gestured toward the torso area to ask if the gun could go through body armor, the complaint said. The employee reportedly pressed White about her question. White said she would need to shoot the agent in the head, shoulder, arm or leg if the gun could not penetrate armor, the complaint said.

The employee reportedly told White that pointing a gun at law enforcement would likely result in her being killed, to which White responded, “If I have to die, I have to die,” according to the complaint. The complaint said the employee suggested White buy a mace product instead of the gun and directed White to a shooting range for training.

White returned to the gun store at about 12:48 p.m. to finish buying the gun, when the store’s owner denied the transaction, advising White return in several days, the complaint said. The owner reported the interaction to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). The ATF referred the report to HSI, which began its investigation.
