The Rotarians finally snagged the Dale St. Denis Memorial Trophy, breaking the Optimist Club’s three-year winning streak in the two clubs’ 25-year rivalry. After last year’s competition, then-Rotary President Pat Starke congratulated the Optimists’ Bill Carinder with a challenge: “It’s not over yet—just wait ’til next year.” And true to that challenge, current Rotary President Natalie Bailey and her team pulled off the win, giving Rotary the edge once again in the overall standings with six wins for Rotary and four for the Optimists since the trophy competition began. The spirited competition took over the entire Coronado lawn bowling green, with wins for two sets of pairs games on each rink determining the winning club. It’s always a wonderful day when these two Coronado service clubs come together for friendly competition, spirited rivalry, and plenty of genuine camaraderie. And you can bet the Optimists will be practicing this year, determined to reclaim the trophy—and perhaps start another winning streak!
