San Jose Sharks News & Notes

San Jose rallied past Montreal 4-3, with captain Macklin Celebrini scoring twice, including the overtime winner on the power play. The game came during a six-game road trip the Sharks opened last Thursday in Nashville, where Nedeljkovic stopped 32 shots in a shootout victory over the Predators. Celebrini, who missed earlier time with a lower-body injury, had also scored in San Jose’s 3-1 home loss to Edmonton on Oct. 10, assisted by Michael Misa.

Defenseman Darnell Nurse has not played since fighting Boston’s Nikita Zadorov on Oct. 13, a bout that ended with Nurse going down awkwardly and leaving the game. The team has not released a diagnosis or timeline, though reports suggest the worst case was avoided, and Nurse skated the morning of the Nashville game. He had a goal, 12 blocked shots and eight hits in six games.

Ottawa Senators News & Notes

Linus Ullmark left Wednesday’s game against Florida in the third period after making a save, needing help to reach the bench, with Samuel Ersson replacing him. Ullmark had stopped 16 of 17 shots and entered the night 6-1-0 in seven starts with a 1.33 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage, leading the league in save percentage and tied for the lead in wins. Four of Ottawa’s six wins before that game were decided by one goal.

Ottawa’s blue line has been thin. Captain Thomas Chabot did not play the third period of Saturday’s 3-1 loss in Philadelphia after an upper-body injury, having logged 16 shifts and 12:03. The Senators have used 10 defencemen this season, with Jake Sanderson sidelined by a lower-body issue. Off the ice, the club extended head coach Travis Green through 2030-31, along with assistants Nolan Baumgartner, Ben Sexton and Mike Yeo and goaltending coach Justin Peters. Green reached his 95th win with Ottawa last Thursday.

Players To Watch

Macklin Celebrini — San Jose Sharks

Celebrini is coming off a 2G 1A night on six shots in 23:07, and the underlying work backs it up. Box Score Junkie has him at a 61.0% Corsi-for and 62.5% Fenwick this season, with 69.2 shot attempts for per 60 and six goals on 4.1 expected. Shots-on-goal props look live.

Tim Stützle — Ottawa Senators

Stützle had a goal and an assist on a single shot last time out, which fits the pattern: Box Score Junkie credits him with six goals on 2.4 expected this season, a plus-3.6 finishing edge, plus 5.4 high-danger xG generated with him on the ice. The 48.9% Corsi-for is middling, so the production is coming from efficiency.
