LOS ANGELES — At least two flight attendants were injured when a United Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles encountered severe turbulence.
United Airlines Flight 1157 departed Hawaii and landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night.
“It only lasted a couple of seconds, it felt like wake turbulence, but we’re smooth now,” a pilot said in a radio call to air traffic control.

At least two flight attendants suffered neck and back injuries.
Passengers described the turbulence as sudden and intense.
“I was watching a movie and all of a sudden we just drop,” San Diego resident Marly Wadlington told Eyewitness News. “And it felt like we dropped pretty far. It started shaking, everyone was yelling. We were all super scared.”
Coral Pena recalled hearing a loud bang during the incident.
“We just started falling, and I was like, ‘Oh my God,'” she said.
Another passenger said she saw a flight attendant with blood on her head and leg.
After landing, the aircraft remained on the tarmac for at least 30 minutes while the injured flight attendants stayed onboard as the plane waited to reach a gate.
