The Downtown Long Beach Unfiltered photo contest kicks off as part of October Arts Month, with opportunities for photographers to capture the beauty of downtown.
Organized by the Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DTLBA), the photo contest will run through Oct. 31, inviting photographers of all levels to highlight community, culture and creativity.
“This contest is such a fun way to shine a light on the character and creativity of Downtown Long Beach,” DTLB Alliance Communications and Marketing Manager Asia Morris said in a public statement. “Every entry helps showcase the color, energy and spirit that make DTLB so special.”
This year’s contest will feature seven categories:
People, places and events
Architecture
Flora and fauna
Skyline and waterfront
Opposite of ordinary
Outside the frame
City nights
Submitted entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges made up of representatives of the city’s Art Council, local photographers and previous winners and finalists.
The winners of each category will receive $200 worth of gift certificates to small businesses in downtown Long Beach. Winners and finalists will have their work displayed along the First Street Transit Gallery in collaboration with Long Beach Transit.
