FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — For the first time in more than 50 years, residents in the Tower District will have a Fresno County Public Library location closer to home, under a plan announced by city leaders.
The temporary library will open at the Ted C. Wills Community Center after renovations are completed. About 1,600 square feet will be dedicated to educational resources for residents of all ages.
A “Talking Book Library”, designed to serve people with visual impairments, will be located next door.
City Councilmember Luis Chavez said the new location will improve access to library services for nearby residents.
“No longer will our residents have to walk, drive, bike or take a bus miles and miles away to the nearest library. They can come right here, walk across the street, and get services, and with this being a community center with the City of Fresno, there’s a number of other services that they can take advantage of here,” Chavez said.
The temporary library at the Ted C. Wills Community Center is scheduled to open in December while city leaders continue searching for a permanent location.
Officials said Measure B funding and support from local advocates helped make the project possible.
