A pedestrian was killed by an Amtrak train in front of the Fresno City College tennis courts by Cambridge and San Pablo Avenues at approximately 10:43 a.m. according to State Center Community College District (SCCCD) police Lieutenant Gary Mejia.

Mejia said the person had no affiliation with FCC.

“It appeared that an unhoused person was up on the railroad tracks, got hit by a southbound Amtrak train, and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Mejia said.

Mejia said firetrucks, ambulances and a helicopter reported to the scene. Campus police assisted Fresno PD in establishing a crime scene.

Campus police barricaded Staff Parking Lot P, located behind the Health Sciences Building, from approximately 10:55 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. according to Mejia.

FCC students received “First-to-know” automated text messages from campus police at 10:56 a.m. and 12:48 p.m. informing them about the incident.

“That lets you know that there’s law enforcement activity unrelated to the college, but it’s within our sphere of influence. So, that’s why that went out, to keep everybody informed,” Mejia said.
