United Airlines to launch service between Charleston and San Francisco

  • October 23, 2026

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — United Airlines will begin nonstop service between Charleston International Airport and San Francisco International Airport on March 28, 2027, expanding travel options between the Lowcountry and the West Coast.

The service will operate Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays using Boeing 737-800/Max 8 aircraft, according to Charleston International Airport.

The route will connect Charleston-area travelers directly with the San Francisco Bay Area, a major center for technology, business, tourism and innovation. Passengers also will have access to connecting flights through United’s San Francisco hub to destinations across the West Coast, Asia and the Pacific.

United already serves Charleston with flights to its hubs in Chicago, Newark, New Jersey; Washington Dulles, Denver and Houston.

“We’re thrilled to expand our service in Charleston with new nonstop seasonal service to San Francisco next spring,” Mark Weithofer, United’s managing director of domestic network planning, said in a statement. “This provides the community with convenient cross-country service to the West Coast and builds on United’s existing service between Charleston and our hubs.”

Elliott Summey, president and CEO of Charleston International Airport, called the route an important addition for the region.

“As our region continues to grow, so does the demand for convenient access to major markets across the country and around the world,” Summey said in a statement. “This new transcontinental route strengthens our connection to the West Coast, supports our business and tourism communities, and gives travelers more choices when flying from their hometown airport.”

The new route will also create a direct connection between Charleston-area businesses and one of the nation’s largest technology and business markets, officials said.
