FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Four Fresno Unified high school football teams got their chance to play under the Friday night lights at Bulldog Stadium.

Students from Hoover, Sunnyside, Roosevelt, and Bullard high schools took the field for a special night of football, school spirit, and memorable moments.

The event brought together students, parents, and school staff to cheer on the young athletes as they played at the stadium, home of the Fresno State Bulldogs.

For Hoover High School senior Mya Delrio, the game was something she and her classmates had been looking forward to all season.

“We’ve been hyping up this game for a while,” Delrio said. “Everybody’s been so excited.”

Hoover High School Vice Principal Gabi Brittsan said the opportunity let students play in a venue bigger than their usual high school field.

“We’re so excited,” Brittsan said. “This is such a great opportunity for our kids to come out here and get to play on such a big stage.”

Fresno Unified teacher Jenna O’Neal said the atmosphere allowed students to experience the excitement of playing in a major stadium.

For some players, taking the field offered a glimpse of what college-level play might feel like.

“The students get to be on the field, get to kind of feel like they’re in college, a D1 school,” O’Neal said. “They don’t get that opportunity all the time.”
