BOSTON — The news isn’t good for Igor Chernyshov.

Chernyshov, who’s believed to have blocked a shot with his left arm on Thursday at the Ottawa Senators, has left the road trip early to get re-evaluated in San Jose.

San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky categorized the 20-year-old winger as week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

In Chernyshov’s stead, Adam Gaudette will make his season debut.

While the Sharks’ center depth has been tested by second-line center Alex Wennberg’s injury, it is a tribute to the team’s depth at wing that they’ve been able to hold Gaudette, off IR since Oct. 10, out for long.

Not a lot of teams have a scorer of Gaudette’s caliber riding the pine for any extended stretch of time. The 30-year-old forward has scored 36 goals over the last two seasons, and in fourth-line minutes.

“He’s a guy, he’s got a knack for scoring. We’ve seen that shot,” Warosfsky said. “We’ve seen his offensive play, especially below the top of the circles.”
