Colorful art decorated the sidewalks of Belmont Shore this weekend as Long Beach once again welcomed the annual Belmont Shore Chalk Art Contest.
More than 40 people participated in this year’s chalk art contest on Saturday, Oct. 24. Artists put chalk to paper along Second Street – drawing portraits, animals, characters and more. The contest, which has taken place annually since 2004, typically draws people from across Southern California and even the country.

The Belmont Shore Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest had seasoned and emerging visual artists, as well as participants from local high schools and universities, organizers said. The artists were spread out along Second Street, scribbling away in front of businesses as spectators and visitors walked by.
The event is hosted by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team, with support from the Belmont Shore Business Association. A total of $1,000 in cash prizes was distributed to the winning artists.
