Re “The U-T Editorial Board’s endorsements” (Oct. 2): I agree with virtually all of U-T’s ballot recommendations on the November ballot. I agree that the politicians in the city and county of San Diego are dysfunctional, incompetent and tone-deaf to the sentiments of the residents. However, I strenuously object to the U-T recommendation to vote yes on Proposition 43 and to the piece by the president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association supporting it.
In a democracy, all voters’ votes should count equally. If a proposition needs a two-thirds majority to pass, and I support it and you don’t, I need to find another voter to support me to cancel out your vote.
If all voters’ opinions should count equally, all ballot propositions should require only a simple majority to pass.
Justify why your vote should count more than my vote.
