Today, Wednesday October 14, Coronado Rotary Club heard the four candidates for Coronado School Board positions express concerns and views in response to subjects selected and voiced by the club. Based on candidate answers to several questions from the club, I believe I can safely say that we are so very lucky to have superb candidates like these in Coronado.

One of the questions concerned air conditioning for classrooms when required. I agree that students deserve a comfortable class environment, whatever the outside weather conditions. It was conjectured that project cost would be prohibitive, something like $40 million. Well, perhaps we should take a closer look at the project. The project is big, but perhaps it could be accomplished in stages. Perhaps savings could be found by closer examination and critical review.. Perhaps some helpful funding could be found in our own community. I am thinking of our Coronado Schools Foundation and our several very accomplished service clubs which would be proud to contribute funds to this significant project for our school youth. I don’t know if these organizations have been asked to help. I know there are other very important issues for our school children, like bullying and the exposure to and undesirable influence of social media. But, I have confidence in the leadership and membership of our school board. Up until now, I have underestimated their responsibilities. But, I am smarter now, and I urge all residents to support the work of our school board in any way they can. Be proactive, help them. Our wonderful children belong to all of us.

With Kind Regards,
