Anaheim came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period for its first victory of the season on Saturday night when Leo Carlsson scored 46 seconds into overtime to give the Ducks a 7-6 road win over the San Jose Sharks. Carlsson added two assists in the win while Cutter Gauthier and Chris Kreider scored twice each. Kreider’s second goal of the game, with 51 seconds left, tied the game, and his two goals were his first since signing with Anaheim after playing 13 seasons with the New York Rangers. Beckett Sennecke and Alex Killorn had the other goals for the Ducks. Sennecke, Gauthier, and Kreider share the team lead with two goals, while Mason McTavish has four assists.
Ben Kindel scored the Penguins’ only goal of the game, tying the score at 1-1 early in the second period, before the visiting New York Rangers ran away with a 6-1 win on Saturday night. Arturs Silovs struggled in his second start for Pittsburgh, and defenseman Kris Letang missed Sunday’s practice with a lower-body injury and is day-to-day. Justin Brazeau leads the Pens with three goals, while Evgeni Malkin has five points, all assists.
