OAKLAND — A man in his mid-30s is headed back to prison, this time on federal charges of possessing a gun four years after he was released from state prison for killing someone, court records show.

Lamar Webster, 35, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and received a 37-month prison sentence, with the start backdated to April 2025 when he was arrested, court records show. He is currently behind bars in Victorville.

Federal prosecutors say Webster is a member of the Case gang in Oakland and that he killed a rival Ghost Town gang member, 21-year-old Eddiebo Rodriguez, in 2013, then served a 10-year prison term for manslaughter. The defense says he was released early in 2021 for good behavior and that there were bullets from two types of guns found at the scene.

In this case, Webster allegedly stomped in the windshield of a woman during an argument over a parking space in April 2025, then pulled out a gun and threatened her. Prosecutors accused him of attempting to intimidate the woman out of testifying, warning her relative who was in Santa Rita Jail that people would “get stomped” if he didn’t get his way. The defense says it was actually the woman who was trying to shake people down.

“The witness in his case in state court called Mr. Webster’s mother to extort her, saying that if she’s paid $5,000.00, she won’t go to court,” defense lawyer Alanna Coopersmith wrote in court records.

When it came to possessing a gun, Coopersmith said Webster regrets it and has plans to secure a good job when he gets out of prison. She said in court filings that he was exposed to gun violence at a young age, and survived being shot twice at ages 15 and 18.

But prosecutors say the April 2025 incident wasn’t the only time Webster possessed guns. They submitted pictures to the court from his Instagram page, showing images of firearms and a picture of him shooting two weapons at a Las Vegas shooting range, including an AK-47, according to court records. They also say he complained about younger members of his gang fraternizing with rivals.
