The San Jose State Spartans (0-2) and the Michigan State Spartans (2-0) meet Thursday at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NCAA basketball odds around the San Jose State vs. Michigan State odds and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions for the best bets.

This is the first meeting between these schools since Dec. 19, 2007, an 85-45 victory by Michigan State in East Lansing.

No. 17 Michigan State topped the Arkansas Razorbacks 69-66 Saturday as a 2.5-point favorite as the Under (155) cashed. G Jeremy Fears struggled, going 0-for-7 from the field, but G DJ Wagner picked him up with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers, and he added 3 steals with 3 assists and just 1 turnover.

San Jose State has stumbled out of the chute, losing both games, including 85-74 at the UCSB Gauchos last time out Saturday as a 9.5-point underdog as the Over (147) cashed for the second consecutive game. The loss was no fault of G Colby Garland, who scorched the nets with 30 points on an efficient 11-of-13 shooting.

PASS.

Move along — nothing to see here.

SAN JOSE STATE +24.5 (-110) is worth a look catching more than 2 dozen points. Michigan State covered last time out against Arkansas, but it had a close brush with danger by just 11 points against the Colgate Raiders in the opener. MSU’s offense has struggled to get cooking, averaging just 74.5 points per game (PPG) so far.

San Jose State’s offense has been OK (74.5 PPG), but the defense has been a little bit leaky, so don’t expect these Spartans to come close to an upset.

OVER 142.5 (-110) is worth a look, as it has cashed in both games to date for San Jose State. The Spartans defense has been the opposite of suffocating, allowing 84.5 PPG through 2 games. That could be the key to finally unlocking the offense for Sparty.
