Finding an affordable apartment in San Diego is getting tougher, with average one-bedrooms renting for twenty-five hundred dollars a month. But some relief is on the way for Downtown.
Father Joe’s Villages just broke ground on a new complex at 16th and Island in the East Village. According to eporting partner 10 news, the forty-seven-million-dollar project will bring 124 affordable homes to the area, specifically for people making thirty to sixty percent of the area’s median income.
Organizers say the goal is to open doors and stop homelessness before it starts. Thanks to a fast-track wood construction method called mass timber, the building is scheduled to wrap up by March 2028.
