An apparent road rage incident in Oakland County escalated into physical violence involving two Macomb County men, where one was allegedly beaten to unconsciousness and suffered a head injury, officials said.

The alleged assailant, 43, of Washington Township, was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to the Troy Police Department.

It happened on Nov. 2 near John R and and Square Lake roads, where officers were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. on a report for an assault in progress resulting from road rage, police said.

At the scene, officers found the victim, a 48-year-old man from Macomb Township, lying unresponsive next to his vehicle, police said. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect exit his vehicle at the intersection, approach the victim’s vehicle, and then hit and kick the victim multiple times, police said. He fled the scene before police arrived, then was located in the area of Big Beaver and Dequindre roads where he was pulled over and taken into custody. He was then transported to the Troy lock-up facility.

The Oakland Press has reached out to the Troy Police Department for additional information on the case, including the alleged assailant’s name and the condition of the victim.
