United Airlines is adding more flights from Maine to two major California cities this summer.

In January, United Airlines announced Saturday-only service from Portland International Jetport to both San Francisco and Los Angeles for this past summer. But on Monday, the airport announced that United was adding 20 more round-trip flights to California.

Beginning May 8, 2027, United Airlines will offer Saturday flights to San Francisco, expanding that to Wednesdays and Saturdays on June 23. Its Saturday-only Los Angeles service begins June 26, 2027, with an additional six flights coming on Wednesdays during the peak summer travel season.

That will bring United’s flights to San Francisco to 32 and to Los Angeles to 19.

“These flights make it very easy to move between the East Coast and West Coast,” Zach Sundquist, the jetport’s assistant director, said in a statement. “United’s hubs in San Francisco and Los Angeles allow for one-stop connections to many Pacific Rim destinations, and with Wednesday service being introduced these options become even more appealing to local businesses with connections to Asia.”

The Portland airport is the state’s busiest. It saw record traffic in 2025, with nearly 2.6 million passengers, surpassing 2024’s 2.4 million, according to data posted on the Portland International Jetport’s website. Through August of this year, the jetport saw more than 1.7 million passengers.
