California’s congressional District 6 will be run either by a Republican-turned-independent or a Democrat seeking to return to an elected office.

Kevin Kiley had served as a Republican for years in Congress, even being endorsed by President Donald Trump. However, he was one of five people targeted by the voter-approved Proposition 50, which redrew congressional districts to favor Democrats.

Since then, he has campaigned as an independent and taken time to mull over which district to run for before deciding on a District 6 campaign, keeping the redistricted maps in mind.

Meanwhile, Democrat Richard Pan is seeking office in Congress after having served as a state lawmaker. During his tenure from 2014 to 2022, he served on the state Senate and on several different committees.
