Online leaks of the Ducks’ Hometown Remix jersey “only fueled hot anticipation” as the new jersey addition “quickly sold out on the Fanatics website,” according to Eric Stephens of THE ATHLETIC. The jersey is a “modernized nod” to the original green, purple and yellow colors worn by the District 5 team in the “The Mighty Ducks” movie franchise. As of Wednesday night, the Ducks’ jersey was the “only one of the 32 Hometown Remix sweaters to have sold out.” Ducks SVP & CMO Merit Tully said the team also sold more than 2,000 of the jerseys at its team store in the first 24 hours. That is the most jerseys sold there in a single day since 1993, when the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim entered the NHL and debuted their eggplant-and-jade uniforms. In all, Tully said that more than 4,000 jerseys and related items were sold over the first three days. The jerseys will be worn by the Ducks in 10 games and Tully is “anticipating another boost.” Already, there have been “calls for the Ducks to adopt the Remix jersey as their every-game sweater.” Tully “can’t imagine doing another major rebrand in such a short time.” Stephens: “But this franchise is known for pivoting on jerseys” (THE ATHLETIC, 11/5).
