LONG BEACH – A 66-year-old man who was killed in a collision in Long Beach was identified by county authorities Thursday.
The victim, identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office as John Leuders, was hit by a car around 9:05 p.m. Sunday as he crossed Wardlow Road near Norwalk Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived at the location, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were treating Leuders before taking him to a hospital, where he later died, police said.
“The preliminary investigation indicates a white Honda CR-V, driven by a 56-year-old female resident of Garden Grove, was traveling eastbound on Wardlow Road when it struck the pedestrian who was in the roadway outside of any crosswalk,” according to a police statement. “The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.”
Speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence are not believed to have been factors in the collision, police said.
