The Fairmont Breakers Spa in Long Beach, California has embarked on a notable one-year anniversary. In November 2024, its historical property became home to the large coastal city’s first-ever luxury spa. In fact, the 10,000 sq. ft. sanctuary is located inside the area’s only luxury hotel altogether. With a population of close to 500,000, the city was previously home to a few upscale chain hotels, including Hyatt Regency, Westin and Marriott.

“In our inaugural year, we’ve seen the hotel and spa become a gathering place for residents and visitors alike,” says Fairmont Breakers general manager André Brose. “It’s sparked a new era of luxury hospitality and wellness in the city, and is helping Long Beach showcase itself as a year-round getaway. That momentum shows Long Beach is entering a new chapter. It’s one where elevated coastal living, meaningful community engagement and wellness-forward experiences combine and grow together.”

The hotel had such positive reception that it received a handful of critical 2025 accolades, including from Condé Nast Traveler, The Hollywood Reporter and Sunset magazine. Shifts in demographics, travel preferences and economics have contributed to Long Beach’s luxury expansion.

“In recent years, Long Beach’s tourism sector has seen significant growth, enabling a renewed focus on tourism and hospitality,” Brose explains. “One pleasant surprise has been how quickly both the hotel and spa have been embraced by the Long Beach community. We anticipated strong interest from travelers, but the volume of local guests engaging with our wellness programming, dining and special events has exceeded expectations. It’s reinforced the importance of continuing to build hyper-local partnerships and experiences.”

There’s also a seasonal two-hour Red Carpet Radiance Facial and a two-hour Supreme Slim & Sculpt, which combines lymphatic drainage, deep anti-cellulite massage, and glove-sculpting techniques to target localized fat and cellulite.

Consumers also have access to cutting-edge retail partners carefully curated based on trends in results-based skincare. Among them include Paris-based Biologique Recherche, which is used for face and body treatments. South Korean science-backed VENN Skincare is also a popular pick at the spa. Barker Wellness, based on of nearby San Pedro, CA, is the spa’s muscle relaxation partner, with a CBD massage offering.

“Guests can escape to a tranquil environment enhanced by calming music and aromatic scents,” Brose says. “They can also expect cutting-edge spa treatments and modern yet innovative approaches to wellness, alongside a newfound sense of personalized care, as highly trained therapists assist in tailoring experiences to individual needs.”

These include fine dining from picturesque Sky Room and authentic Italian Nettuno. There’s also the art-driven rooftop bar Halo, and moody lounge Alter Ego, which features jazz performances on select evenings.

It’s a perfect balance between timeless luxury and Long Beach’s relaxed vibe.”
