BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The National Weather Service issued a blowing dust advisory for Kern County Thursday morning.
The advisory was issued at 9:47 a.m. Nov. 13 and is in effect until 1 p.m.
It affects Bakersfield, Delano, Wasco, Shafter, southeast San Joaquin Valley and south end of the San Joaquin valley.
According to the advisory, visibility is between 1/4 and 1 mile in blowing dust. Reduced visibility is causing hazardous driving conditions.

Officials advised people with respiratory problems to stay indoors until the dust storm passes.
A sudden drop in visibility to near zero is also possible, the advisory said.
If you encounter blowing dust or sand on the roadway while driving, pull off the road as far as possible and park before turning the lights all the way off and keeping your foot off the brake pedal, the advisory said.
“Remember, ‘Pull Aside, Stay Alive,’” the advisory said.
The California Highway Patrol also gave some tips for drivers:
Hold onto the steering wheel firmly
Turn your lights on, but don’t drive with your brights on — use low-beam lights
Keep extra space between you and the surrounding vehicles
Don’t make sudden movements and don’t stop suddenly
Be aware of debris in roadways, such as powerlines and trees
Don’t try to drive quickly through areas with low to no visibility
