Highlark Park specialty cafe Kindness & Mischief will close on Saturday, November 1, after almost a decade in the neighborhood. Owner Mo Maravilla announced the closure in an Instagram post, writing, “To the greatest community in the world, it is so bittersweet to say: K+M is closing.”

Maravilla opened Kindness & Mischief in 2016 after garnering support from a Kickstarter campaign. The brick-lined shop quickly became a neighborhood standby for its precise pour overs and signature drinks like the OG Kindness latte with condensed milk and cinnamon, as well as a rotating line-up of vegan and gluten-free-friendly pastries. Luckily, this isn’t the end of Maravilla’s career in coffee — she will continue roasting beans, plans to offer more workshops and classes, and teased a new project called Studio Tigre. Kindness & Mischief will recognize its last day open with a celebration of life at the shop; the cafe is open regular hours until then.

Hugo’s expands to Echo Park

Hugo’s — a favorite for gluten-free, vegan, and allergen-friendly meals — just expanded to Echo Park with a new ghost kitchen. Now, favorites like the cinnamon swirl French toast, vegan huevos rancheros, and gluten-free fried pickles are for takeout without Eastsiders needing to trek to Studio City or West Hollywood. Make sure to try the churros or peach crumble for dessert.
