Former Tennessee baseball head coach Tony Vitello was hired as the Giants’ manager in MLB on Oct. 22. He was introduced as San Francisco’s manager on Oct. 30.
The Giants traded for a former SEC pitcher on Tuesday.
San Francisco traded right-handed pitcher Mason Black to Kansas City for right-handed pitcher Logan Martin.
Martin played at Kentucky in 2023 after transferring from Sewanee. He appeared in nine games, including eight starts, for the Wildcats. Martin (1-1) recorded 30 strikeouts and a 4.44 ERA in 26.1 innings at Kentucky.
He was assigned to the Giants’ High-A affiliate Eugene on Tuesday. Martin was selected in the 12th round of the 2023 MLB draft by the Royals (No. 349 overall).

San Francisco will open spring training under Vitello on Feb. 21, 2026 against Seattle at Peoria Stadium in Peoria, Arizona. The Giants will host the Yankees on March 25, 2026 to open the MLB season at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California.
Vitello compiled a 341–131 (125–85 SEC) record with the Vols, winning one national championship, two SEC regular season championships and two SEC Tournament titles from 2018-25.
