FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno’s airport is joining other airports nationwide in not showing a video message from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in which she blames Democrats for the federal government shutdown.

The video highlights the government shutdown’s impacts on pre-flight screenings for travelers. It tells travelers that because “Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government,” operations are impacted, and most of the TSA employees are working without pay.

In a statement, Fresno Yosemite International Airport says they are not showing the DHS/TSA video on airport-controlled screens “due to the political nature of the content.”

The limited digital screens owned and operated by FAT are designated for content that supports safety, security, wayfinding, and other essential travel information.

Airport staff add that the decision not to show the video on its digital screens is “consistent with local and federal policies in place.”

The decision by staff at Fresno Yosemite International matches similar actions in the Bay Area. YourCentralValley.com’s sister station KRON4 reports that San Jose Mineta International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport will not be showing the video as well.

Elsewhere in the country, the Associated Press reports that airports in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Phoenix, and Seattle have also decided not to show the video.
