Memorial golf outing honors Oakland County father killed in police chase crash

Nearly three months after a 28-year-old Oakland County father was killed by a speeding driver fleeing police, family and friends gathered on the golf course this weekend to honor his memory — and raise money for his young children.

“This is Alex’s son, Santi,” said Dale Durant, fighting tears, holding his six-month-old grandson, Santiago, who turned six months old just two days earlier.

Durant’s son-in-law, Alex Habib, of Madison Heights, was killed July 12 while driving for Uber in the early morning hours.

Fight on: Trojans’ two‑way onslaught topples Michigan football in statement victory

he No. 15-ranked Michigan Wolverines got embarrassed as the USC Trojans opened the floodgates in a 31-13 upset loss in the highly anticipated matchup inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Michigan had no answer on both sides of the ball as USC gained nearly 500 yards of total offense while holding the Wolverines to an uninspiring performance, as they never felt like they were in the game.

The Wolverines’ defense looked underprepared and out of sync as quarterback Jayden Maiava was picking them apart with screen passes early and often.

Thousands fill Corktown streets for breast cancer walk

Nearly 10,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year in Michigan, but on Saturday, Oct. 11, thousands of survivors and supporters filled Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood with hope and determination.

About 8,000 breast cancer survivors, caregivers and supporters gathered at The Corner Ballpark for Detroit’s largest breast cancer walk, Making Strides Detroit.

The event, now in its 28th year, has raised more than $19 million for research and support services.

Afeni Badu Muhammad was back in court this week — here’s what happened

Afeni Badu Muhammad, who is accused of stabbing her manager to death at a Michigan McDonald’s restaurant, returned to court this week.

Muhammad, 27, of Eastpointe, was in court Wednesday for a hearing. She is charged in connection with the death of 39-year-old Jennifer Harris.

The last time Muhammad appeared in court was on Sept. 3.

Weather: Mild start to week in Metro Detroit before midweek fall chill

Sunday sets the stage for pleasant autumn weather to start the new week.

After the morning fog dissipates, expect mostly sunny and calm conditions. Although a jacket or hoodie will be needed in the morning, temperatures will climb into the 60s by noon and peak around 70 degrees in the afternoon.

Sunday’s weather will be comfortable for outdoor activities.
