Nonprofits throughout the Sacramento region are giving away free turkeys and sides ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — With Thanksgiving around the corner, nonprofit organizations throughout the Sacramento area are hosting events where they will give away turkeys and other Thanksgiving foods. 


South Sacramento Christian Center Drive-Thru

The South Sacramento Christian Center, a church in the Florin neighborhood, is hosting its annual food and turkey giveaway on Nov. 22. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 10 a.m. or until food runs out. The church is offering a drive-thru and walk-up service for those who are without a car. Only two families per car will be served. The church anticipates many people to attend the event.

Stockton Boulevard Partnership

The Stockton Boulevard Partnership is giving away free turkeys at its 7th Annual Turkeys-To-Go on Nov. 22. Those who are in need of a turkey must stay in their vehicle and there’s only one turkey per car. Walk-ups are not accepted and those people will not be served.

Cosumnes River College

A free Thanksgiving drive-thru Turkey giveaway is taking place on Nov. 22 at Cosumnes River College. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will continue until supplies last. People will be served on a first-come, first-served basis, and turkeys will be given on a per-car basis. Attendees must stay in their vehicle. The college is partnering with Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen for the event. 

Nguyen’s office told ABC10 that if more than one family is in the vehicle, staff on site will verify by checking the addresses on valid driver’s licenses or valid ID to show different addresses for different households.

Joey’s Food Locker

Joey’s Food Locker, a food bank in Natomas, is hosting a free turkey giveaway on Nov. 21. The event begins at 12 p.m. to will continue until 2 p.m. Turkey and sides will be given to families on a first-come, first-served basis. Families must be physically present to receive donations and are encouraged to carpool to ease traffic congestion. Recipients must be registered on the Oasis platform to receive. Bridge Network

The Bridge Network, a mentor service organization for at-risk and vulnerable youth, is hosting two Thanksgiving-related events this year. The first one is a Thanksgiving box giveaway on Nov. 21 at 11a.m. and will continue until supplies last.  The giveaway includes $20 grocery gift cards, sides, and produce. No turkeys will be given away.

The second one is a Friendsgiving Dinner on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.. The organization is partnering up with God’s Next Level Ministry to serve a Thanksgiving dinner that includes the normal fixings such as turkey, ham and stuffing.

Yolo County Children’s Alliance Community Giveaway Day

The Yolo County Children’s Alliance is hosting its 20th Annual Community Giveaway on Nov. 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. According to the organization, families will receive essential items such as coats, blankets and Thanksgiving meal boxes. No pre-registration is required and distribution will be on a first-come, first-served while supplies last. Attendees must bring proof of Yolo County residence, such as a driver’s license, utility bill, Medi-Cal card, or any other document showing their current address.
