A Southern California homeowner woke up to a disturbing sight on Friday: a decapitated puppy on their front lawn.

The resident submitted photos of the headless fluffy white dog found lying in front of his home in L.A.’s Miracle Mile neighborhood to KTLA on Sunday morning.

He said that he initially thought the situation was a Halloween prank, but after stepping outside, he realized it definitely wasn’t.

Upon checking his home’s security cameras, he easily spotted the perpetrators of the grisly act: two coyotes.

The home surveillance video shows one of the coyotes dragging the small dog onto the lawn and beginning to scavenge. Another coyote approaches but appears not to have been interested in the canine, instead sitting nearby and appearing to groom itself.

According to the homeowner, the neighborhood has been experiencing “a coyote problem” for the past two years and the city “is not dealing with it” despite residents repeatedly asking for help from officials.

“[I’m] saddened by the situation,” the homeowner said. “Someone is missing a puppy.”
