The owner of a popular Lincoln Heights-based ice cream shop is seeking the public’s support in identifying the group of burglars who stole cash and other goods from them earlier in the week.
Surveillance footage captured from Rico Tejunio los Reyes showed two men breaking into the shop while two other men waited outside. According to the owners of the shop, the group took off with $1,500 in cash from the register and some ice cream.
“We don’t feel secure in our own community,” said Paola Reyes, the owner’s daughter. “We’re kind of watching our backs, we’re kind of worried if they’re going to come into the store when we’re open or something. We’re just on the lookout, taking different security measures, look out for one another and protect our employees, which is the most important.”
Reyes added that the burglars appeared to have caused at least $500 worth of damage to her family’s shop. The owners spoke with police and filed a report.
Police have not provided a detailed description of the individuals wanted in the break-in.
