SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (3-3) lost to the Sacramento State Hornets (3-2), 64-62, in a tightly contested game on the road on Sunday afternoon.
 
Carl Parrish paced four Blue Hose double-figure scorers with 14 points. Jonah Pierce recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Jaylen Peterson and Triston Wilson tallied 10 points apiece.
 
Presbyterian scored 40 of its 62 points in the paint.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Presbyterian’s Erik Taylor scored the game’s first two points with two free throws 30 seconds into the contest. After a jumper from Parrish, the Blue Hose led 6-3 a few minutes into the game. With 14 minutes on the clock. Sacramento State took the lead, 9-8. A three from the top of the key by Presbyterian’s JD Bowden tied the score at 13 with 11:38 on the clock. A free throw by Chidi Chiakwelu and a layup from Khalon Hudson finished off PC’s 6-0 run, giving the Blue Hose a 16-13 lead with 10 minutes left in the half. Sacramento State would tie the score at 18 at the 7:12 mark. Then, Presbyterian would close out the half on an 18-9 run, taking a 36-27 halftime lead. Parrish, Pierce, Wilson, and Iverson King scored during the Blue Hose’s scoring run.
 
SECOND HALF – Sacramento State scored the first two points of the second half, cutting PC’s lead to 36-29. Presbyterian would eventually push its lead to 11 points, 44-33, when Wilson scored on a tip-in with 16:59 on the clock. After a dunk from Peterson giving the Blue Hose a 46-35 lead, Sacramento State went on a 10-2 run, cutting Presbyterian’s lead to 48-45 with 12:37 left in the game. Two free throws from Wilson and a layup from Parrish stopped the Sacramento State run, putting the Blue Hose in front 52-45. The Blue Hose eventually increased their lead to 58-49 after a layup from Peterson with nine minutes on the clock. Over the next six minutes, Sacramento State scored 11 of the next 13 points, tying the score at 60. Then, the two teams exchanged baskets. The Hornets made free throws with 1:26 and 1:02 on the clock to take a 64-62 lead. Presbyterian had several scoring chances down the stretch, but were not able to convert on them in the 64-62 loss.

With 14 points, Parrish collected his fifth double-figure scoring game of the season and the 21st of his career.
Pierce’s double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds) was his second of the season and the fifth of his career.
Pierce’s 12 points were his fifth double-figure scoring game of the year. He has also tallied three double-digit rebound games this season.
Peterson’s 10 points was his second double-figure scoring game of the season and the sixth of his career.
With his 10 points, Wilson collected his second double-figure scoring game of the season and the third of his career.
