The list of Thanksgiving savory sides is as long as a sideboard, and even if you’re a holiday superfan, you’re not going to remember them all: green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, biscuits, slaw, marshmallow-topped sweet potatoes, and stuffing are just the start.

But let’s be real: Even if we adore the side, and we do, we’re all semi-patiently awaiting the pie-focused chapter of the Thanksgiving meal, the sweet segment that arrives near its conclusion. (Though, if you’re quirky, the eating of pie can absolutely begin the dinner, if you’re feeling it.)

If you want to burnish your crusts and add finesse to your filling, but you’ve got to stick close to home Thanksgiving Week, what with the arrival of relatives, be cheered: A virtual Gourmandise School class, presented live, will take a deep, delicious, and oh-so-gooey dive into Thanksgiving pies.

Specifically, apple and pumpkin pies, those two stalwarts of the autumn dessert table.

Pastry Chef Robyn Collins will lead the informative, three-hour pie-a-palooza.

Before the class commences, and after you buy your ticket, you’ll receive a list of need-to-haves before class, including equipment, ingredients, and how to prepare to make the most of the virtual class.

“Baking pies at home can bring generations together, and they taste so much better made from scratch with quality ingredients,” said Sabrina Ironside, owner of the Santa Monica-based cooking school.

“Through our virtual class, we can offer this experience to a broader community, guided by some of LA’s most inspiring chefs.”

If you’re eager to jump into the juicy and joyful seasonal classics, and do so at an in-person session, be sure to check out the full and festive line-up at The Gourmandise School’s class schedule.

Upcoming classes include Bagels & Pretzels, The Holiday Cookie Tin, Chinese Dumplings, and Classic Hanukkah Dishes; there are lots more to peruse, and a few have been created for parents and children to enjoy together.
