Weird Al Yankovic just added dozens of dates to his “Bigger and Weird” tour … you know, for those who didn’t get the chance to see him on this year’s mega-tour.
“Okay, we’ll give you just 90 MORE CHANCES! But then THAT’S IT,” the accordion-playing parody singer wrote on Instagram, teasing the big announcement.
It’s a massive run of shows that kicks off in May and runs through October, with five California stops, including Sept. 12 at Save Mart Center Arena in Fresno and Sept. 15 at Vina Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles.
Tickets for the Save Mart Center show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.com and noon Friday at the Save Mart Center box office.
Yankovic built a career with his brand of off-kilter polka and parody shtick, lampooning four generations of pop music icons — from Queen, Madonna and Michael Jackson to George Harrison, Nirvana, Taylor Swift, Lorde and Pharrel Williams. He’s also become a pop-culture icon in his own right. See the 1989 cult-classic film “UHF” or his 2022 satire-biopic staring Daniel Radcliffe.
The Bigger and Weird tour promises the iconic parodies (and originals) plus a few tunes the band has never played live before (for the hardcore fans).
The “Bigger and Weirder” tour did stop in Modesto’s Fruit Yard Amphitheater in August, but this will be Yanovic’s first Fresno stop in nearly a decade and his first arena-level performance in town.
He played the Big Fresno Fair in 2000 and 2007 and was at the Saroyan Theatre in 2004. He played Warnors Theatre in 1999 (there’s video footage to prove it) and the Cadillac Club in 1992, when he opened with the Robert Palmer parody “Addicted to Spuds.”
Fresno concert announcements you may have missed
Yankovic is the second major concert announced by the Save Mart Center in recent days.
Just last week, Journey announced it would be embarking on a final farewell tour after more than 50 years. The tour includes an April 24 stop at Save Mart Center.
It’s one of just three California dates on the first leg of the tour. Tickets are on sale now.
“This tour is our heartfelt thank you to the fans who’ve been with us every step of the way — through every song, every era, every high and low,” founder Neal Schon said in a statement. “We’re pulling out all the stops with a brand-new production — the hits, the deep cuts, the energy, the spectacle. It’s a full-circle celebration of the music that’s brought us all together.”
The Rainbow Ballroom, fresh off Friday night’s performance from Steve Aoki, has landed Pauly D for January.
The reality-TV star-turned DJ, best known for his stint on MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” plays Jan. 10. Tickets for the 18+ event are $40 and on sale now.
