The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department performed a health inspection at East Market & Restaurant on November 17. A missing paper towel dispenser and more violations were listed in the Afghan restaurant’s inspection report. The department will conduct a reinspection to check compliance.

East Market & Restaurant serves Afghan cuisine with a focus on Halal food. Popular menu items include Kabuli Pulao, Bolani, and various Halal meats.
The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department offered a yellow placard to East Market & Restaurant due to major violations. The violations mentioned in the report are as follows:
The paper towel dispenser at the Afghan food establishment was not working during the inspection.
According to the report, improper cooling of three 5-inch hotel pans of lamb stew was noted at East Market & Restaurant. The pans were found in the walk-in cooler of the facility. The interior temperature measured 47°F.
The report added that raw chicken was stored incorrectly, as it was directly touching lamb meat at the Sacramento facility.
The health department noted an unclean meat band saw at East Market & Restaurant. Additionally, the underside of the cut plate of the meat band saw had an old, discolored meat residue.
An open bag of flour was stored right next to the large mixer at the Afghan food establishment.

As per the report, boxes of frozen foods were stored directly on the floors in the walk-in freezer of the Sacramento facility.
The walk-in cooler floors were found to have old spilled liquid and blood, the report stated.
Staff used a stainless steel bowl as a scooper, which is not approved.
Heavy ice condensation was noted in two areas of the walk-in freezer, including the floor.
The report stated that ice was found in a food container of the Afghan food establishment.
A thermometer was missing in the two-door reach-in cooler at the rear of the Sacramento food facility.
The report added that the back door at East Market & Restaurant was not closed during the inspection.

The latest inspection report of East Market & Restaurant mentioned that many repeat violations from the last inspection were seen at the facility. If the non-compliance with regulations continues, the department may take further action.
A reinspection will be conducted at the Sacramento food establishment within 24 to 72 hours. East Market & Restaurant may receive a green placard if the violations are corrected by then.
