It’s been more than a decade since Of Monsters and Men flooded airwaves with its catchy folk ballad “Little Talks,” and quite a lot has changed since then.
Building on the mainstream fame it found with the 2011 single for its debut record, “My Head Is an Animal,” the Icelandic band spent the nine years releasing music, making the rounds on the festival circuit and touring the world.
After putting out its 2019 studio album “Fever Dream,” the group stepped away from the public eye to regroup and reassess its relationship with music. It wasn’t until last month — a little more than six years later — that Of Monsters and Men returned from its hiatus with a new sound and a fresh perspective.
Their fourth studio album, “All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade,” departs from the typical twangy folk music fans have come to expect, instead experimenting with electronic and orchestral elements and more introspective lyrics.
Of Monsters and Men is currently on tour in support of the record and is scheduled to stop at the Oakland’s Fox Theater on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
