FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — After nearly a week of rain in the Central Valley, Fresno’s public works crews are clearing the city’s streets while preparing for more bad weather later this week.
City officials said by noon Tuesday, they had already gotten 40 calls reporting road hazards.
“We’re out blitzing today. We’re putting every resource available to get these potholes filled and really finish the storm cleanup,” said Brian Russell, the city’s Assistant Director of Public Works.
Russell said on top of filling potholes, his crews work to clear the streets of any leaves or debris and trim trees to avoid more leaves from falling. The department is working on all of this around the clock as the area braces for more rain Thursday into Friday.
Officials are asking drivers to slow down in areas where crews are working, to help move things along faster and keep the workers and other drivers safe. It also helps crews identify problems early and deal with them more efficiently, as Fresno teams tackle 1,800 miles of road alone in the city.
“As the crow flies, that’s from here to Nashville, Tennessee,” said Russell.
Aside from practicing safer driving, Russell said the public can help in other ways, too. City residents can report any hazards by calling 311, or anyone can download the FresGo app to report there.
