The San José State women’s basketball team opens the 2025-26 season at home this Wednesday with a non-conference game against UC Santa Barbara. Game time is set for 6 p.m., inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. This is the first and only time the Spartans will play at home in the month of November after rescheduling the November 10 game.
RESCHEDULED GAME: The San José State-Bethesda game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 10, at 7 p.m., inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. The game was moved after the November 10 game had to be postponed due to health concerns with the Bethesda program.
ABOUT UC SANTA BARBARA: The Gauchos enter the game with a 3-1 record. The team has wins over Cal State Monterey Bay, 80-44, Seattle U, 89-49 and Grand Canyon, 72-70, and lost at No. 3 UCLA, 87-50. Head coach Renee Jimenez is in her second season at the school and 17th as a head coach.

The two teams met last season at the Thunderdome with the Gauchos winning 86-76. Current Spartans Rylei Waugh (6 pts, 3 assists), Amira Brown (5 pts, 5 reb.), Stella Sgro and Mecca Alexander saw action in the game.

Ayzhiana Basallo led the team with 26 points and marked the program’s first victory over UCSB since Feb. 23, 1989.
Conference Foes – The two schools were members of the PCAA and the Big West from the 1986-87 season through the 1995-96 season. (10 years).
DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR BROWN: Amira Brown recorded the first Spartan double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds at California Baptist on November 14. It is just her second double-double of her career after recording 10 points and 11 rebounds at Boise State on January 15th of this year.
FINAL MW TEAM TO OPEN AT HOME: The Spartans are a team of lasts in the Mountain West this season. With the UCSB game, SJSU is the final team in the conference to play a home game for the 2025-2 season. The Spartans were also the final team to begin play for the 2025-26 season with their game at BYU.
WAUGH SOLID OFF THE BENCH: Rylei Waugh is a solid force for the Spartans coming off the bench. She is second on the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game and second in minutes played at 29.6 per game. She was one of two Spartans to score 12 points at California Baptist to lead the team. Waugh is also 9-for-10 from the free throw line and has grabbed 10 rebounds, good for third on the team.
ANDERSON LEADING SPARTANS: Maya Anderson leads the team in scoring at 14.0 points per game and in rebounding at 8.0 pg. She led the team at BYU with career-bests of 17 points and 8 rebounds.
MULTIPLE SPARTANS SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES: In the first two games of the season, there are have been at least three Spartans score in double figures.

UP NEXT: The Spartans play on the road for the next three games, starting at Pepperdine on Sunday the 23rd, at 1 p.m. After Thanksgiving, the team plays at Portland State on the 28th at 5 p.m., and at Washington on December 1 at 6 p.m.
