The reckless delinquents have plagued the residents of Elk Grove with the menacing “Door Kick Challenge,” where pranksters rush up to a targeted house and kick the front door as hard as they can before scurrying away.

Elk Grove, a community 15 miles south of Sacramento, has seen at least eight incidents where the teens have caused damage, Elk Grove Police Department said on Facebook Monday.
One attack left a door with $900 worth of damage to the doorframe. Anything above $950 includes felony charges and the minor’s parents would be responsible for paying the bill, CBS News Sacramento reported.
Property damage exceeding $400 is considered a felony vandalism under California law.

Police arrested two 13-year-olds on Friday and charged them with causing more $680 in damage, police said.

Officials didn’t reveal the ages or names of the trio of youngsters.
Residents who fell victim to the online pranks cautioned the youngsters of continuing their attacks, worrying they might target the wrong home.
“Somebody could come out with a gun, and you could never know, these kids could be dead just for a stupid prank,” Ronnie Monroe told CBS13.

“It sounds like someone is kicking down your door to try and hurt your family,” Elk Grove Police Sergeant Jason Jiminez told the outlet.
Police have had trouble catching the fast teens, who are using motorized bikes to flee the area.
“You can’t catch them if you can’t see them,” said Monroe. “They get on electric bikes, and they are gone.”

“We want to use this as an opportunity to remind our community that while trends like this may seem like harmless fun, they can have serious consequences,” police said in the post. “Talking with your children about safety, respect for others’ property, and making good choices helps keep everyone safe and build a stronger community.”
