As the countdown continues to the start of the busy holiday travel season, Sacramento International Airport continues to see more and more travelers flying into and out of Sacramento.”We are seeing record passenger volumes every month and every year right now. We’re in 22 months of record year over year growth,” said Lindsay Myers, an airport spokeswoman. “So, that means a lot of people coming to SMF which is awesome and we want to keep up with that.”As part of the effort to keep pace and meet the needs of those passengers, Sacramento International Airport held a formal grand opening ceremony for West Coast Sourdough deli, its newest food offering in both Terminal A and B.West Coast Sourdough is one of a dozen new concessions either opened in 2025 or opening in the next few months. The arrival of new concessions coincides with the broader $1.4 billion SMForward airport modernization effort. Those traveling this holiday will see the new quarter-mile long pedestrian walkway in Terminal B, as well as a second parking garage outside Terminal B, taking shape. Both are expected to be open in time for the busy summer travel season next year.”It does seem like, oh my gosh everything is changing and it’s very exciting. It is sort of a coincidence, but you know Sacramento has grown and the airport has to grow, too,” said Myers. That growth also includes plans to expand the gate capacity in Terminal B, which now has a target date of 2028. Eventually, the airport plans to upgrade the behind-the-scenes process for its Terminal A baggage claim system.Because of that growth, Myers is now advising holiday travelers to arrive two and a half hours before their departing flights this season.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
As the countdown continues to the start of the busy holiday travel season, Sacramento International Airport continues to see more and more travelers flying into and out of Sacramento.
“We are seeing record passenger volumes every month and every year right now. We’re in 22 months of record year over year growth,” said Lindsay Myers, an airport spokeswoman. “So, that means a lot of people coming to SMF which is awesome and we want to keep up with that.”
As part of the effort to keep pace and meet the needs of those passengers, Sacramento International Airport held a formal grand opening ceremony for West Coast Sourdough deli, its newest food offering in both Terminal A and B.
West Coast Sourdough is one of a dozen new concessions either opened in 2025 or opening in the next few months.
The arrival of new concessions coincides with the broader $1.4 billion SMForward airport modernization effort.
Those traveling this holiday will see the new quarter-mile long pedestrian walkway in Terminal B, as well as a second parking garage outside Terminal B, taking shape. Both are expected to be open in time for the busy summer travel season next year.
“It does seem like, oh my gosh everything is changing and it’s very exciting. It is sort of a coincidence, but you know Sacramento has grown and the airport has to grow, too,” said Myers.
That growth also includes plans to expand the gate capacity in Terminal B, which now has a target date of 2028. Eventually, the airport plans to upgrade the behind-the-scenes process for its Terminal A baggage claim system.
Because of that growth, Myers is now advising holiday travelers to arrive two and a half hours before their departing flights this season.
