The CIF Southern California Regional boys water polo tournament is off to a flying start for the two La Jolla teams in the running, with both La Jolla High and The Bishop’s School advancing to the semifinals in their divisions.
Second-seeded La Jolla qualified for the semis in Division I by defeating No. 7 Loyola of Los Angeles 15-12 in the opening round Nov. 18.
The Vikings will take on No. 3 Cathedral Catholic at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in La Jolla’s home pool at the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex. It’s a rematch of the CIF San Diego Section Open Division title game Nov. 15, when La Jolla unseated the two-time defending champion Dons with a 13-12 victory that gave the Vikings their first Open Division crown in boys water polo.
The regional semifinal winner will advance to the Division I championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Mount San Antonio College in Los Angeles County.
Meanwhile in Division II, top-seeded Bishop’s moved into the semifinals with a 25-8 rout over No. 8 Bonita on Nov. 18.
The Knights next host No. 4 Carlsbad at 5 p.m. Nov. 20.
The winner will move on to the Division II championship game at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at Mount SAC. ♦
