Recently, Bakersfield College’s Native American Student Support & Success Program
(NASSSP) hosted a series of discussion panels to honor and celebrate Native American
Heritage Month. The inspirational events brought together past and current BC students,
tribal leaders, and scholars to share their experiences, challenges, and successes
in education, community development, and cultural preservation.
Last week, attendees gathered at BC’s SouthWest campus to participate in the panel
discussion, Q & A, and luncheon. This week, the Renegade Event Center on BC’s Panorama
Campus was the venue for Campus Stories: Voices of Native Identity, Resilience, and
belonging. Both events featured Native-American panelists who were eager to share
their unique life experiences, which included obstacles, determination, and success.
Both events concluded with a lively discussion time, where audience members had the
opportunity to ask questions and share their own experiences.
Each event included time for networking, delicious food, and refreshments. Attendees
at both events got to experience a meaningful blend of celebration, community, and
education. Native American Heritage Month will conclude this week with Keynote Speaker
Bobby Martin at BC’s Delano Campus on November 20th. Please visit the BC online events
calendar for more details.
