BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — After over a year, the teenager accused of shooting and killing a 15-year-old boy at The Marketplace was arrested. This comes after the DA’s Office initially determined there was insufficient evidence and referred it back to the police.

The Kern County District Attorney’s Office said on November 17, 2025, DA’s investigators and investigators with the Bakersfield Police Department executed a warrant and arrested Albert Briseno Jr. in connection with the murder of Prince Michael Banner.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on November 10, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m., officers found 15-year-old Prince Michael Banner shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Back on November 14, 2024, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office said a complaint for Briseno Jr. was submitted to their office for review. They told Eyewitness News, “Our office determined there was insufficient evidence and referred it back to the Bakersfield Police Department for additional investigation.”

Eyewitness News confirmed in March 2025 that the Bakersfield Police Department completed its investigation and resubmitted the report to the DA’s Office.

Now, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office provided an update to Eyewitness News, saying that since that time, District Attorney Investigators have completed substantial follow-up investigative work related to the case. Following the completion of the investigation, a Ramey Warrant was issued for Briseno Jr. on October 24, 2025.

On November 17, 2025, Briseno Jr. was arrested.

On November 18, 2025, the DA’s Office filed a petition alleging that Briseno Jr. committed first-degree murder, possession of a handgun by a minor, carrying a stolen loaded firearm, and carrying an unregistered loaded firearm.

Briseno Jr., a minor, will appear in Juvenile court for an Initial Detention hearing on December 1, 2025.
