BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department is scheduled to conduct a DUI and license checkpoint within city limits Friday night going into early Saturday morning.

Officers with the police department are scheduled to be at an undisclosed area within the city between 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the police department.

During that time officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment and proper licensing. Specially trained officers will be available to evaluate suspected drug-impaired drivers, when possible.

Police said drug-impaired driving includes many prescription drugs, marijuana and some over-the-counter medications.

DUI checkpoints are a resource used in reducing the number of persons killed or injured in DUI involved crashes. Locations for checkpoints are chosen with safety considerations for officers and the public.

Police said drivers caught driving while impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest, including jail time, fees and DUI classes.
