A person was shot by Mexican law enforcement after allegedly stabbing another person in the East Village and leading police on a pursuit before he crossed into Mexico on Thursday, officials said.

The stabbing happened near 700 15th Street shortly after 11 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police say the suspect drove away in a gray Mercedes SUV, which officers later found on Stork Street. They attempted to pull the suspect over, prompting a pursuit.

Officers deployed spike strips multiple times but were unsuccessful in stopping the SUV, the department said.

SDPD confirmed the suspect then crossed into Mexico — ending the SDPD pursuit — where Mexican law enforcement shot him. The suspect was taken to the hospital, Lt. Travis Easter said. Officials did not provide more details on his condition.

No SDPD officers were involved in the shooting.

Police say the stabbing victim has life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
