A 19-year-old man is in custody after allegedly carjacking and assaulting a woman in Anaheim, officials said.

The incident, according to a news release from the Anaheim Police Department, occurred on the afternoon of Nov. 19 in a parking lot near the intersection of Euclid Street and Katella Avenue.

The victim, a woman, called 911 and told emergency operators that a man had run up to her vehicle, pulled her from the driver’s seat, assaulted her and drove away in a Toyota 4Runner.

While fleeing, police said the 19-year-old caused a collision with another vehicle.

“Within minutes, officers found the 4Runner unoccupied and the suspect running from the area, the release stated. “Officers gave chase on foot, and the suspect was taken into custody.”

The suspect, who has not been identified by police, was booked for felony charges that included carjacking and aggravated assault.

Authorities did not say whether the victim suffered serious injuries or if she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“We’re grateful for the victim’s quick thinking and cooperation,” police said.
