One of Northern California’s most unique winter experiences is officially open for the season. The Mount Shasta Ice Rink, formerly known as the Siskiyou Ice Rink, welcomed skaters back on November 15, kicking off another year of outdoor skating beneath the towering backdrop of Mount Shasta.

The rink will remain open through February 22, 2026, offering a full schedule of public skate sessions, group skates and a robust lineup of hockey and skating programs. Whether you’re lacing up skates for the first time, practicing figure skating moves or joining a hockey game, the Mount Shasta Ice Rink offers something for every skill level.

Over the years, the rink has transformed from a modest community project into a full NHL-sized facility, thanks to ongoing improvements and local support. Upgrades over the last five seasons include new dasher boards, an enhanced chiller system, repairs to the cement rink pad, improved fire-pit gathering areas, new safety netting and expanded youth hockey programs.

The rink originally opened in 2000 and has gradually grown through grants, donations and community fundraising. What started as a sand-based rink with basic boards and pipes has evolved into one of the region’s most beloved winter attractions, drawing both locals and visitors eager to skate in the shadow of the mountain.

If you’re looking for a true Northern California winter adventure, bundle up and head to Mount Shasta. Few ice rinks in the world can match the view.
