FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno leaders and local businesses joined together to distribute over 2000 turkeys to families across Fresno.
Fresno City Councilmember Annalisa Perea, alongside Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria and several local organizations, distributed over 2,000 turkeys, fresh produce, and 1,000 complete holiday meal boxes to families across Fresno.
The initiative comes as many low-income households face challenges due to the federal government shutdown, which delayed and reduced essential support.
To address this heightened need, 500 turkeys and 500 holiday meal boxes will be specifically reserved for families receiving SNAP benefits.
“Times are tough for so many, and families are being asked to stretch far more than ever before. No family should ever have to worry about whether they can put a meal on the table during the holidays. When our government systems fall short, our community steps up. This event is about dignity, hope, and making sure that every child, every parent, and every senior has what they need to gather at the table this Thanksgiving,” said Councilmember Annalisa Perea.
Additionally, 1,500 prequalified District 1 families will receive turkeys and produce at the Steinbeck Elementary School parking lot, thanks to the generosity of sponsors including Producers Dairy, PG&E, Chaplaincy, Central California Food Bank, Walmart, the Building and Construction Trades Council, Mid Valley, and The Artist Tree.
